Demian Erbar ARB

Sessional Lecturer

Demian studied architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome and the Technical University in Aachen, where he graduated in 2006. He gained extensive professional experience working in architecture practices in Germany and Argentina prior to joining David Chipperfield Architects in London in 2008, where he was project architect for the interiors of the Stirling Prize nominated Hepworth Wakefield Gallery, and part of the design team responsible for the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate. During his time at DCA, he was also project architect for a series of high profile UK projects and worked on numerous competitions, including the winning scheme for the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre in Russia.

In 2014, he travelled extensively across Asia prior to establishing an independent practice in London. His design for a self-build 'Writer’s Cabin' in Kent, was highly commended for the RIBAJ Microarchitecture Award. In 2015 Demian co-founded Erbar Mattes, a London-based architecture studio. The practice has participated in several international competitions and secured a number of significant private commissions in London. Alongside practice, Demian is regularly engaged as a guest critic in UK architecture schools and as Architecture Ambassador for the RIBA Schools Programme.
