SYN City in London

SYN City had a grand day out in the Big Smoke. Graduate Diploma and MA Architecture students from the Canterbury School of Architecture at UCA showed their Pioneer Urbanism projects in Battersea, featuring photography, filmic portraits, typological, programmatic and temporal strategies for the urban regeneration of Ashford in Kent. Five hours of sound and vision attracted visitors from London and beyond, and transformed the Testbed 1 into a temporary gallery-cum-lecture-theatre-cum-dance-floor. Contextualizing the projects of the studio within the wider urbanism discourse, guest speaker Karsten Huneck, partner in KHBT and member of the international design collective Office for Subversive Architecture, presented a selection of his own projects, ranging from ephemeral spatial performances via temporary installations in the urban realm to projects on an architectural scale. Thamos and Papa Mediocre from [re:fried] provided the beats and by the end of the night had turned all exhibition-goers into party-people.

A big THANK YOU to everybody at the Doodle Bar and Testbed 1 for having us. And to all of you who came along. We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.
